While this game was quite chaotic, it really illustrates the need for understanding the timing and flow of the position. Having entered into an attacking position where black was always going to come out on top, Chigorin decided to gamble, and it likely would have backfired had black played it correctly. As it happened, white correctly decided later to go all in, realizing the desperate state of the position, and realizing that black needed to find a few critical consolidating moves. Pillsbury was not up to the challenge, and Chigorin's persistence eventually paid off, giving him the full point.
